Project Education Sudan Internship – unpaid, credit/non-credit

5 to 10 hours a week, sensitive to student’s schedule

Location: Cherry Creek district in Denver, transportation to and from location required

Project Education Sudan is offering an unpaid, for-credit or non-credit internship to undergradutate and graduate students.  Project Education Sudan is a non-profit organization that raises money to build schools in the war-torn region of Southern Sudan.  Following the peace accords ending the 20-year civil war in Southern Sudan, this untouched region is now accessible for outside aid and is desperately in need of education.  Project Education Sudan is run entirely by a dedicated volunteer staff.

Project Education Sudan is seeking an intern that is passionate about areas such as education, African regional studies, non-profit organizations, international development and cultural/anthropological studies.  The intern sought must be a self-starter and must be able to work independently as well with other volunteers and board members.

The main duties of the intern:

- Help organize fundraising events
- Help with logistics regarding Project Education Sudan’s upcoming trip to Sudan
- Write, format and mail the newsletter
- Administrative work such database entry, mailings, etc.
- Work with local high school students
- Attend steering committee meetings

The intern will also attend various appointments with the Executive Director and will have the opportunity to learn how non-profits work both nationally and internationally.  There will be many occasions to interact with the Colorado community of Sudanese refugees.

Because some parts of the semester are busier than others for Project Education Sudan, the hours requested of the intern may vary throughout the semester.  The average hours per week will be around 5 – 10 and can be determined based on the student’s availability.  The internship is located in the Cherry Creek district of Denver near Colorado Blvd.  It is necessary that the intern have his or her own transportation to and from this location.   There is an RTD bus stop close by.
